MARY SLESSOR – Courage in Africa

A blue-eyed, red-haired Scottish woman stepped from her canoe. Her name was Mary Slessor, and she gazed out at the view of her new home: this tiny town in Africa was where she’d start a mission post to meet the needs of people there.

When fiery, red-haired Mary Slessor (1848-1915) left her home in Scotland and boldly went to live among the unreached tribes of Africa’s Calabar region, she brought with her the kindness, peace, and justice of her God. Fearing God and nothing else, Mary became the cherished «White Ma» to entire tribes of people others were afraid of. Whether teaching school, nursing the sick, or rescuing those in danger, Mary showed others the life and freedom found in Jesus.
